WORK PROFILE
I am Mrs. Gayathri Vatsalya, a trained Clinical Psychologist & Counsellor, Social Worker, and Founder-President of SVK Shikshan Sanstha – an NGO working for the welfare of People with Intellectual Disabilities. For my work with disabilities, I have been honored with the Mother Teresa Excellence Award, Bharat Shiksha Ratan Award, Young Achiever Award, and Dhyeyapurti Award amongst others.
SVK Shikshan Sanstha works with an aim to empower adults with Intellectual Disabilities to lead a dignified life and to sensitize the general public on creating an inclusive and equal society.
As part of it, I have initiated a unique social venture: Millet Magic - a packaging unit of various Millet Products and Art Therapy- a hand block printing Unit, exclusively to provide employment opportunities to adults with intellectual disabilities. This unit has been extremely successful in encouraging our beneficiaries in becoming independent, confident and socially aware individuals with higher happiness in their lives. Alongwith, it has gained a lot of popularity in the city for its one-of-a-kind employment model and the highly nutritious and creative products.
I have also started a personality development studio to groom People with Intellectual Disabilities with social & work-place behavior, communication & confidence building techniques which is the need of the hours for most people with disabilities. Additionally, I prepare Intellectually Challenged Adults to participate in various social and cultural events like fashion shows, dance and music programs, and business gatherings, and compeer & host such shows, to change the perceptions of the society towards people with intellectual disabilities.
