Biography

Charulatha started learning Veena under the tutelage of her Grandmother, Dr. R. S. Jayalakshmi, an eminent Musician-Teacher-Musicologist, at the age of 6 years.

Born in the year 2006, at the age of 7 years, she participated in the Fide World Chess Championship 2013- Inaugural Ceremony, where 70 Veena artists performed in front of the former late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu – Dr. J. Jayalalithaa.

She has continued to learn and perform on the Veena ever since.

She has over 80 cutcheries to her credit over the years. She has performed at a number of venues and events in Chennai including at Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan, Raga Sudha Hall, Mudra-Infosys Hall, Arkay Convention Center, Kalakshetra, Nada Sudha-Velachery, Narada Gana Sabha, the Veena Festival each year organized by Dr. B Kannan and at Sir PT Thyagaraya Hall as part of ‘Marghazi Isai Vizha’ for Vendhar TV in Dec 2017. She has performed at Badrachalam-Andhra Pradesh, Shanmukananda Hall-Mumbai, at the Temple of Fine Arts, Malaysia, for ‘Sunaada – Music for Wellness’ at HealthCare Global, Bengaluru and Indian Raga Labs(for Online) among others.

She has a number of awards and prizes to her credit as well.

Last but not the least, she had been part of the ‘Isai Mazhalai’ group of Si Abhasvaram Ramji.
