There are many jobs that are considered difficult if not impossible for people with disabilities. The medical profession is one such career and that’s why even today disabled medical aspirants have to overcome many obstacles to pursue a career in this line. I was diagnosed with SMA when I was around two years old.my childhood days were very hard for me.I couldn't sit properly at that time.and i went for regular physiotherapy. My father is a post man. He used to pick and drop me from school every day. My mother left her job to caring me. When I was in classroom, mobility has never really been an issue for me. My friends and teachers were also very supportive. Initially they were reluctant to include me. But then I was scored well in exams and all and they all started accepting me. So education helped me a lot to overcome my disability. During my school days I had performed in various stages all over kerala including state youth festival. One year ago, I sung a duet with Haricharan for a movie Backpackers. And now doing concerts in various stages. I also published a book contains 22poems in my 9th standard and now writing about various social issues and creativities through my social media accounts. Running a page named "immini_cherye_oridam" and almost 8000 readers are reading my daily posts and supporting me. I had faced numerous obstacles while trying to chase my dream of becoming a doctor. “A lot of people demotivated me. They said a disabled person cannot become a doctor. But from childhood, I was determined of being one. I did not have an option B when it came to choosing my profession”. After my 10th standard I was not allowed to take Science stream. that was the first discrimination in educational stream I faced due to a disability. I got good rank in medical entrance exams, but got seat only for Ayurveda. It was after the third attempt that I got a medical seat that I wanted. Once when I went for a counselling at Trivandrum, the panel insulted me a lot. They told me I cannot become a doctor because I have a disability. But I knew that is just what I’am going to do”.The second time also they insulted me a lot.the third time I went in front of a national medical board and they gave me the medical certificate.the very next day I joined in kottayam government medical college. Currently I'm in wheelchair and continuing with my 3year MBBS. Also working as a project coordinator in Prajahita foundation, which is working for the empowerment of person with disability. And conduct motivational speeches in various occasions all over Kerala.
