I am a Social worker who is fully committed in the field of social work in uplifting the marginalized domestic workers, children and standard migrants from other countries. I reach out people in crisis and extend timely help for the over seas migrants who are standard in aboard as laborer's. I have the capacity to net work with different stakeholders and policy makers. I am very dynamic, loving, risk taking person who has lot perseverance in the field of social work. I participated in different International meeting and raised the issues of the cross border labour migrants.

 Tamil Nadu Domestic Workers Welfare Trust is registered in 2005  under Trust Act. It has been working for the empowerment, rights, justice, dignity and welfare of Domestic Workers, Migrants and Children by creating a platform in the society for less privileged target group with opportunities to learn about their rights, Organising, mobilising and strengthening them, Ensuring their safety, responding and intervening during crisis, advocating and lobbying for their rights and legislations by coordinating with the state, national and international organizations etc. It is to promote their livelihood roping in  with the employers through training skill development and personality development and exhibit desired good behaviour ,reliability  with increased credibility.

 

OUR MISSION:

·       As an organization we commit overselves to promote and ensure participation of domestic workers in their struggle for rights and justice, thus to have a decent living and working conditions for Domestic Workers and Migrants.

·       To create platform in the society for less privileged children and provide them with opportunities to learn about their rights and empower them, to strengthen their capacities and thus enhance their skills, especially in their academic studies and work with stakeholders to promote child participation as a way of life, in all the matters concerning them and provide sustainable childhood.

OUR VISION:

·       To create a just society for all Domestic Workers and Migrants, where they are treated with JUSTICE and DIGNITY, their rights are upheld, contribution recognised and voices heard.

·       We also envision a society where a Child Domestic Worker is completely abolished and children enjoy mainstream education and fuller childhood.

OUR AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

a)     Empowering Domestic Workers by promoting their participation and leadership.

b)     Ensuring justice for Domestic Workers by lobbying for comprehensive national legislation.

c)     Ensuring dignity of Domestic Workers in order to emphasise their contribution towards the economy and quality of life.

d)     Enabling a society without Child Labour.

e)     Ensuring quality education for the under privileged children of the society.

Project Details

 Empowernmnet of domestic workers through skills, lobby and advocacy,

Empowernment of childern through education and building child rights Movement

Achievements

 Recognition: As a result of awareness and motivation to the employers and community domestic workers are recognized for the contribution they   make to families and country’s economy. Apart from   recognition to individual domestic workers, the Movement as a whole is being   recognized by the State of Tamilnadu.

 Rights: More than 25000 domestic workers  have been sensitized on their rights and are conscious of it.

Registration: More than 15000 domestic workers have been helped to register themselves in the Tamilandu domestic workers welfare board.

Formation of groups: To strengthen the network of domestic workers and to get their rights, they are formed into groups.  The group consists of 15-20 members in every locality. In every group there are  3 leaders to look into their issues such as abuses of the domestic workers by the employers or any body, the   leaders themselves handle the cases or inform the TNDWM office to look into the matter.

Skill training:

Domestic workers  were trained in skill like house keeping, cooking, which enables them to  bargin better salary .

Net working with NGOs, CBOs and Govt. Departments. The issues of domestic workers,  children and women  have brought together like minded NGOs  on  number of occasions. This has strengthened the net working with other organization and CSOs and governments.. 

Media : Frequent media campaigns  for the  rights, dignity and empowerment  of the domestic workers have brought TNDWM in close touch with  print and electronic media.

·        Domestic Workers day cum created a greater awareness among the mass, Government officials and other stake holders.

·        The capacity building training enables the domestic workers to fight for their rights. 

·        Joining the Movement the domestic Workers become strengthened and they came to realize their rights.  

·        Solidarity among domestic workers are increasing that they are able to stand by other domestic workers in crises and demand justice

·        The movement has reached out to more domestic workers in other districts to create a common platform for them to come together and become aware of their rights.

·        Domestic workers have begun to take active participation in the issues that affect their life. They are able to understand the issue, express opinion, asserts their rights able to organize their events.

·        The issues children out of school are getting more focused addressed by the movement and the government in some states has taken specific measures to bring them to mainstream education.

·        Children are rescued and enrolled into regular schools.

·        The government of India is planning to regularize domestic work by registration of workers, employer, placement agency to curve trafficking of women into the sector and would provide skill training to enhance their skill and thus their economic status

·        Participation in the ILC meeting. ILO convention on decent work for domestic work.
